City of Bozeman Information Technology

We would like to  welcome you to the City of Bozeman's new web portal. The City's staff has been working hard to bring critical web-based resources to you.  We will continue to develop this website based upon your needs.  Please feel free to call or write us with comments.  We truly value your opinion and look forward to ways we can better serve you.

The City of Bozeman's Information Technology Division is organized into three functional divisions; Network Services, Geographic Information Systems, and Applications Services.

The city's technology infrastructure is very diverse.  We provide voice, video, and data services to all city departments as well as some non-city organizations such as the joint city/county 911 center and the emergency operations center.

The City of Bozeman is regarded as the most technologically progressive community in the State of Montana.  We believe in leveraging technology to bring the highest levels of efficiency and capability to the organization.

Network Services Division

The IT Network Services division manages and supports over 400 City of Bozeman employees and workstations, and 50 servers providing e-mail, web, IP telephony, database and office productivity applications. Included in this is support for specialty applications such as E-911 Computer Aided Dispatch support, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) servers for managing waste & water treatment facilities, and Recreation Swim Center registration and Point of Sale systems.

Network Services also manages the fiber optic network infrastructure and leased circuits that interconnect these computer systems, and provides the overall architecture and standards for network security.

Geographic Information Systems Division

GIS is a technology discipline that is used to view and analyze data from a geographic perspective. The technology is a critical piece of an organization's overall information system framework.

GIS links location to information (such as people to addresses, buildings to parcels, or streets within a network) and layers that information to give you a better understanding of how it all interrelates. You choose what layers to combine based on your purpose.

Applications Services Division

The IT Applications Services division provides management, support and maintenance of critical enterprise and department software application systems. These range from large enterprise-wide systems such as Financial Management, Payroll/HR, and enterprise work order management to department business systems such as Recreation Registrations and Point of Sale, Building Permitting, Parking Enforcement, Utility Billing, and Municipal Court.

Applications Services implements new business software though vendor package implementation, in-house development (including web development), and provides complete system life cycle services. By adhering to formal project management methodologies, they strive to meet enterprise and department business goals, schedule and budget requirements.
